Walter Johnson Middle School 024As the new school year begins at colleges and universities across the country, students at two historic Baptist schools are taking Jesus’ command to feed the hungry and quench the thirsty quite literally.  Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Baylor University in Waco, Texas, are feeding their local communities through the Campus Kitchens Project. The initiative is an effort by students to keep extra food on their campuses from going to waste -- and to challenge the very roots of malnutrition in their communities. Read more...

You CAN Come Home Again

The Campus Kitchen at Wake Forest is the beneficiary of the Volunteer Service Corps's 1st Annual Homecoming service project.  Throughout the week leading up to Homecoming (October 5-10), students and alumni can donate canned goods to CKWFU in residence halls, the ZSR Library, Benson University Center, and at the football game on Saturday.  Keep a lookout for boxes around campus and contribute to this campus wide celebration of coming home!

University garden provides food for Campus Kitchen

gardenWhat began as a whim for two students during their freshman year is now a campus garden in full bloom on Polo Road. Current Sophomores Whitney Johnson and Alex Pompey were inspired to plant a garden while taking the freshman writing seminar “You Are What You Eat” this past spring. Jamin Rowan, a Teaching Fellow for the English department, had students research several universities’ food chains from the growth and production of their food to the food’s decomposition.
