We are a student run organization dedicated to furthering the University’s motto of “Pro Humanitate” by engaging students, faculty, and staff in meaningful volunteer service.
We connect our campus with external agencies and service opportunities in order to develop a commitment to humanitarian values and civic responsibility. Functioning as a programming board, we organize educational and service opportunities for the Wake Forest community.
We believe that every volunteer experience is an opportunity to serve, learn, and act. Therefore, we challenge you to transform your moment of service into a lifetime of difference!
The VSC is run by an Advisory Board (AB) comprised of student leaders. These leaders go through an application process in the Spring and serve a one year term that coincides with the academic year. The 2009 - 2010 members include:
Amy Bachman: Chair –bachaa5
Nikki Garcia – Secretary – garcnd6
Lee Zhang – Treasurer - zhanll6
Tyler Ashley - Greek Liaison for fraternities - ashltw6
Nicole Protz - Greek Liaison for sororities - protns9
Claire Hogan – Publicity - hogacf6
Emily Manning – Publicity - mannel8
Vincent Ganzon - Event Coordinator - ganzvf8
Stephanie Edwards - Event Coordinator - edwase8
Priyanka Desai - Service Trips Coordinator - desapa6
Each partner agency that VSC works with has one student volunteer that serves as the agency head. The role of the agency head is to act as the liaison between the community agency and Wake Forest. This person helps recruit volunteers to their specific agency, communicates with the Wake Forest volunteers at that agency, coordinates group volunteer opportunities with transportation to and from the agency, and helps organize special events with their agency. Each agency Head works with one of the four Issue Chairs (Children, Schools, Healthcare, or Community Services) in order to keep the VSC informed of the volunteer needs at their agency.
The VSC’s 40+ partner agencies need lots of volunteer support! Hundreds of Wake Forest students, faculty and staff serve these agencies throughout the year. Regular, sporadic, and one-time volunteer opportunities are always available. Any Wake Forest student that volunteers is a part of the VSC and we hope that volunteers will also be interested in holding a leadership position in the organization. If you are interested in volunteering, whether it be regular or at a one-time event, you can search for a volunteer opportunity in the “Get Involved” section of our web site. This is your chance to turn a moment of service into a life time of difference!
